INSTALLATION Note: Eudora 5.0.1 for Macintosh may be installed over any existing copy of Eudora. To install Eudora 5.0.1 for Macintosh, do the following: 1. Make a backup copy of your existing Eudora Folder (usually located in your System Folder, or in the Documents folder), and make a backup copy of your existing Eudora application folder, and put the two copies in a separate area. 2. Quit any applications you are running. 3. Remove any plug-ins that did not come with the Eudora Pro software. 4. If installing off of a CD, insert the Eudora Pro 5.0.1 CD into your CD drive. 5. Double-click on the Eudora 5.0.1 installer icon to start the installation program. The Eudora Pro splash screen is displayed. Click Continue to display the Eudora Read Me window. Once you have reviewed the contents of the Read Me window, click Continue to display the License Agreement. Note: The contents of the Read Me and License Agreement windows can be printed or saved to a file for later review. 6. Once you have reviewed the contents of the license agreement, if you agree, click Agree. 7. The Eudora Install dialog is displayed, and the default Easy Install item is selected. If you select Custom Install from the menu, the custom install dialog will appear, allowing you to select which items you want to install. To see a description of an item, click on the item (the description is displayed just below the selection area). 8. To install all of the items, be sure the default item Eudora Installation is selected and click Install. To install just the items you want, select them by clicking on each one, then click Install. 9. A dialog is displayed asking you where you want to install the Eudora Application Folder. 10. Select the destination folder and click Install. The install program begins installing the items you selected onto the appropriate locations on your disk. If you wish to install over an existing copy of Eudora, select its folder as the destination now, being sure to give the new folder the same name as the existing folder. By doing this, the installer will merge the new version into your existing folder instead of replacing the existing folder. Alternatively, select the "Update an existing Eudora install" option and you will be prompted to select the folder you wish to update. 11. Once the installation is complete, you may be prompted to restart your Macintosh. Click Restart. This completes the installation of the Eudora software. To find out how to set up Eudora so that you can send and receive e-mail, see the User Manual section "Opening and Configuring Eudora." For details about the files in the master Eudora Folder that have just been updated or installed in your System (or Documents) Folder (this holds all your mail and other important files), as well as the Eudora Application Folder that you've just installed in the destination dialog above, see their corresponding sections in the Reference Manual. ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE Acrobat Reader¨ 4.0 We include an installer for Acrobat Reader¨ version 4.0 with your purchase of Eudora Pro. Acrobat Reader¨ version 4.0 allows you to open, read, and print the Eudora 5.0.1 User Manuals located in the Eudora Pro folder within the Documentation folder. This is provided as a separate download within the installer. QuickTimeª 3.0.2 or newer is required for Eudora to function properly. Install QuickTimeª to display inline graphics, play movies and sounds within your email messages. If Quicktime 3.0.2 or newer is not found on your startup disk, a link to Apple's Quicktime download page (http://www.apple.com/quicktime /download) will be installed onto your desktop.
